Better Learning, Higher Impact: A Practical Look at Metalearning

Most learning businesses focus only on the subject matter to be taught. If you broaden your focus to include process as well—not just what to learn but how to learn—your learners will fare better, and you’ll have a much higher impact as a learning business. Metalearning is concerned with understanding the factors and processes that support—or thwart—learners’ ability to gain and apply new knowledge or skills.

In this session, we’ll examine twelve principles of metalearning, including motivation, practice, feedback, and effort. As an active participant, you’ll explore how you can help the adult learners you serve be better learners so that they learn more, apply more, and are more likely to return to you for more educational offerings. In turn, your learners’ improved performance will help you make an impact on the field, profession, or industry you serve—and their repeat business will help your learning businesses survive and thrive.

Celisa Steele, a longtime student of and believer in the power of metalearning, will lead this session. Read Celisa’s full bio.
